It was 25 years ago that we met. I walked into your school for a set-up (from a mutual friend of ours) and you walked up to me, said “Miss Myers, I presume” and kissed my hand. What 15 year old kisses a girls hand? For a book worm whose head was full of fantasy and romance of novels, it swept me off my feet. We dated for a short while and I told my friend Cyndi that I was going to marry you. No one took me seriously, I mean, I was only 14 and we were very young.
True to our ages, we broke up three months later. We lived in different cities and neither of us drove, it was inevitable. What wasn’t inevitable was the fact that we stayed friends. All through high school.
At 19 and 20 years old, we married. No one thought it would last.
You have shown me so much about myself. You have been the rock that I have leaned on all through our lives together. As one of my favourite lines in one of my favourite books goes: you are the harbour of my soul’s journey.
I am so glad you made it to today. This is the start of some great milestones for us. You turn 40 today, we celebrate 20 years of marriage in February and then I turn 40 this coming summer.
We have five amazing children. We have a lifetime of memories. I have now known you for longer than I have lived a life without you.
Happy 40th birthday, my dear and darling Shawn. My love for you knows no bounds.
