It’s no secret that we have had a tumultuous last two weeks. To keep the safety of my family intact, I will not go into details but suffice it to say, we are finally starting to see the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. Which is a relief.
This weekend brought forth more news, some of it wonderful, some of it not so much. My brother and his girlfriend lost their pregnancy at just shy of 12 weeks. Heartbreak.
My younger sister gave birth to a baby girl, my sixth niece, and named her Viola. My parents and my kids are doing well, my grandparents…not so well. All the updates in the course of less than twelve hours. It’s a lot to take on. So, we did what we needed to do and we escaped the city for a while.
About fifteen minutes drive from our house, and about six minutes outside of the city is the Irving Nature Park. An outcropping of forest, marsh, wetlands, and of course ocean nestled right into the crook of the outside of Saint John and the Bay of Fundy. It’s kid friendly, dog friendly and one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.
I’m forever amazed, the more I see of my new province, that we aren’t a bigger destination in terms of tourism canada. We have been nick-named “the drive-thru province” because people generally tend to blow by on their way to PEI or Nova Scotia, but, they’re missing SO much. I haven’t seen a single view since moving here that wasn’t a least beautiful and more often than not, breathtaking.
We spent just under five hours there on Saturday afternoon and went back on Sunday with our dog Katie and a packed picnic for another three and a half hours and we’ve still only seen about a quarter of the park and trails. We did however get closer to a deer than we’ve been since we moved here (and that includes the herd of six on our front lawn a few weeks ago), saw a porcupine climbing a tree, a gorgeous heron in the marshes off the boardwalk and several frisky squirrels along the pathways. I can’t tell you how incredible it is to come around the bend in the path to have the whole ocean bay open up before your eyes…and to know that when we leave, we’re home in less than twenty minutes.
It was a great weekend. We unplugged, unwound and re-charged.
I love my new home in New Brunswick.
So glad this weekend brought you some light. Beautiful pictures.

Mom and Dad (your grandparents) were much better when I stopped after the family reunion on Sunday. Still recovering from a flu bug but ok for now. Glad to hear you had a good weekend. Positive thoughts for you and your family.
