With a serious lack of something to a) meet new people and b) get me out of the house I decided about a month ago to start my own writer’s group. Saint John has one, but it’s in the city and they meet on Saturday afternoons, which isn’t a really big thing, but they’re already there and established and honestly, I wanted something in my new home town.
I approached the library and asked them how they would feel about playing host and they were all for it. We are starting tonight.
I’ve already been told that since we posted the information a few weeks ago, there has been quite a bit of interest so I’m looking forward tonight to meeting with all the people who, like me, want a group where we can write, share, critique one another, support one another and just basically throw a lot of mutual love for reading and writing around a room once a week.
I still have yet to complete Summer Poppies, although that is my fault for letting it sit on the back burner for so long while I’ve been dealing with other things, like job searching and letting my back heal. There’s lots of work for me to do on that as well as…dah dah da DAH, I had a seriously GREAT idea for a new book. Like, so amazing I have literally been jotting down notes like a demon whenever they come to me over the last two weeks.
I’m excited to share everything I have learned through trial and error over the last years of my own writing, things I have learned from other people in the industry and from other authors I have had the good fortune to converse with. Tiffany Reisz, Kelley Armstrong and a few others.
Off I got tonight. Thursday night writer’s group in Kennebecasis Valley. I can’t wait.
