The sewer line backed up into Keisha’s apartment/room in the house and spouted vile hatred all over her floor. We met with the insurance people today and basically, they have to remove her walls, her flooring, the cupboards in her kitchen, her desk, her trunk (the beautiful antique one we gave her for Christmas three years ago) her bookshelf, and a whole bunch of other stuff. She lost a huge amount of clothes (including the new ones she bought herself with her Christmas money) and the whole thing has been emotionally overwhelming.
With her job cutting back her hours to about six (one shift) every two weeks, she recently picked up a babysitting job and spent the last of her money yesterday (before it was REALLY bad down there) on a craft kit and stuff to take with her to babysit. That’s the kind of girl she is. She spent her money on stuff to do with the kids she’s going to take care of.
Today has been hard, on us both, but mostly for her. She keeps apologising to me for feeling emotional because, as she puts it, there are so many people who have to go through much harder loss.
Anyway, I just wanted to share and say thanks to the people who have already offered to send her some clothes. Now we just have to get our plumber to show up and fix whatever is causing it and work on getting the non-damaged things out of there and safely put away.
It’s going to be a very long week.
