My parents just left.
They came out east a couple of days after we did for a visit with my sister in Nova Scotia that was to end with a few days visit with us, but both of them got sick so they stopped by last night and left again this morning, bound for Ontario and their home so they could recover. It was slightly sad that they couldn’t stay longer, but I was really happy to show them our new home.
And tell them my news.
Our first week here (so, barely two weeks ago) we went into the Indigo store here in Saint John. First thing I noticed? A huge display when you walk in the door for local authors. We browsed, bought a few books, because lord knows I can’t go in a book store without buying something, and on the way out I asked to talk to the manager.
As luck would have it, she was short staffed that day and was the one at our cash register. I mentioned to her how much I loved her local authors wall, told her that I had literally just moved here and that I am a writer.
Suffice it to say, on September 14th, I will be doing a multi-book signing and reading at the Indigo in Saint John!!
No fuss, no muss, she and her staff were so excited to read what my books are about and said that my genre, contemporary women’s fiction, is EXACTLY the type of book they sell most of at their location. It’s their niche. It’s mine. And I? I am so frickin’ excited!
I’ve spent the last two days hibernated in my house watching Orange is the New Black and obsessing over it, so now it’s time for me to get back to work. Stuff around the home, back to my writing, back to applying to jobs. And now looking forward to a really amazing new opportunity to jump back into the game with both feet on the books.
